The Fishing Hole ~ Rockbridge County Style

I pass this pond in the afternoons on my way home from work if I drive the interstate. Not until I was wandering the back roads near my school looking for barns to photograph did I actually come upon it. There is a little dock on the upper right with a seat on it for the fishermen. It does not look anywhere as large here as it does from the highway. It is a good sized stocked pond and as pretty as it can be.

Final Installment of Swannanoa Estate

Here is a picture of Swannanoa which I found on Wiki. I only had my telephoto lens with me so was unable to get a complete shot. Maybe this will better show you the size of the home and its architectural style.

These three pictures are of the signed Tiffany chandler hanging in the Gentlemen’s Smoking Room

This delicate mural is over the fireplace in the Smoking Room

These are the double stairs up to second floor.

 Tiffany-like large stained glass window at the head of the stairs. As you walk in the front door, it almost knocks you off your feet. It is absolutely gorgeous with the light coming through it. The woman is a representation of Mrs. Dooley, the beloved wife of the builder and original
owner of the estate.

The following are pictures I took of some of some of the
detail work in the home.

This is an article which was on a table in the home.

To Whom or What Do I Belong?

Do you all have any guesses as to who or what might have left these prints? Bud and I are just not sure. We saw hem up on the Blue Ridge Parkway so they are NOT ours.

A Camera View of the World

I found this old camera at our local antique/flea mall and could not resist getting it. The bottle was a dollar and the fake flower another dollar from the Dollar Store. Made a white box out of an old wooden milk carrier, and found a spot in the house upstairs that get  wonderful “natural" light. In Kim Klassen’s "Beyond Layers" class we are working on simplicity and lighting combined with the use of textures.

You Are Beautiful

"The world is glittering with gold, and yellow streamers of sunlight wind through the tree boughs like God was throwing a party.”

Tree in Black and White

Trees
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is preset
Against the sweet earth’s flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately ives with the rain.
Poems are made by tools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

{In the Picture} ~ 52 IN 52 ~ Week 4

 Who is that mad woman behind the mask?

Why, it’s Genie on another “Forced March” through the icy woods. I am really NOT a grump. I laugh and have fun all the time. It is just HARD taking a picture of yourself with an iPhone in freezing weather.
