A Wee Bug, A Touch of Pink, and a Feeling of Melancholy

"When the heart grieves over what it has lost,
the spirit rejoices over what it has left.”
~Sufi Epigram

Things are OK....just a lot more damage to the house and yard due to the earlier flooding and then the big wind storm than we had expected. I am sure all of you have been through times like these. You just hold it together and move on. Sorry I have not been online reading your posts, posting some of my own, and commenting on yours. I have missed you all. The exciting news is Buddy is leaving on Sunday for a 3 week hike in the mountains of Maine. I will post his photos as he sends them back to me. That guy was meant to be in the woods. They are his little bit of heaven here on earth.

Using Texture As Background

Have you ever thought about using a texture as your background instead of your picture. This is an example of doing just that. I was reading on Bonnie’s Pixel Dust Photo Art site, and this is the question she asked the readers. My answer was “NO,”  but I was willing to give it a try. If you click on the link above, it will carry you to the page where she discusses this method and even gives you a free texture to use as your background. You will need to scroll midway down the page to get to that particular post. Her work is beautiful, and I am confident you will enjoy looking at her pages.

If you are wondering, this was the original picture...one of a wide open red and orangish-yellow tulip. I loved the picture SOOC so thought it might be a neat one to use for my experimentation. It took lots and lots of work on my part, but I FINALLY got it to this point. I will keep on trying because Bonnie’s are beautiful.

Sunrise on Kerr’s Creek

Each morning take a moment and stop to look, listen, and give thanks for the beautiful world in which we live.

A “Difference” Experiment with PSE10

Since I really do not know what all the blending modes do in PSE, I decided to try to learn a bit. After reading the instructions given on the “Pixel Dust Photo Art” site, I transformed the original shot into the series below using textures from Pixel Dust Photographic Art,  Kim Klassen, and  RH West Photography. I used the “difference” blending mode on all of them, modified each one with a solid color layer adjusting the opacity. In the end I did a bit of levels and hue/saturation tweaking. It was a fascinating experience which has given me a much better understanding of what can be done when using the “difference" blending mode in PSE10. The way the coloration changed almost blew me out of the ballpark. I could not believe my eyes! They are definitely different, but there is something about them I find very appealing.
