Alexander Dairy Farm ~ Fairfield, VA

Local Dairy Farms Are Fading Away

“Growing up on a dairy farm,
you certainly learn discipline and
a commitment to purpose."

~Mike Johanns

On my way to Fairfield Elementary School and the quilting shop, I pass this big dairy farm. I have been meaning to take some photos of it, but only this day all the planets were in line. There was no proper place to park and I was across the 4-lane highway from the farm, so I pulled off onto the shoulder and walked first to the median and then across to the farm to get these shots. It was a state road so the cars were going relatively slowly. I was very, very careful. I promise. BUT, I was scared to death the cops were gonna ticket me because I was just about 5 lengths back from a red hydrant and barely off the road.

Cranberry Bogs ~ West Virginia

On Saturday, August 16th, Buddy and I drove over to WV to walk through Cranberry Bogs. This time there were flowers to see and lots of pictures to take. After a long summer inside, it was heavenly to get back out in the woods. The day was gorgeous and the temperature perfect. We had the best time. There’s a bunch of photos in this post, so just whippy-doodle right on through them. I culled lots, but these were my favorites.

These are all taken along the boardwalk through the glade.

WHY? ALWAYS THE GRAFFITI :-(

AGAIN.....WHY??? ALWAYS THE GRAFFITI :-(

These are the flowers we saw. They were all so pretty.

Here we have some bees and a hummingbird moth.

Mom's Best Friend ~ Jack

Hey, Mom...Do you think I can make it across the "Bridge to Somewhere"?
I promise NOT to go out into the highway.

I'm not sure.
Think I might need to think about this a bit more because it's risky territory.

Nope! Don't think I'll do it today. It sure did hurt a while back when I got my paw caught between those old boards and had to cry for help.We really do need a new bridge, Mom...a doggie proof bridge...PLEASE!  I'm going home for a "cookie". That's lots safer and sure tastes better.

So Sad

This sweet white-winged Junko flew into our front porch glass storm door the other day and died immediately. My friend who is a birder came over a short while later and helped me to identfy it. He pulled out the feathers so I could see the white. After I took the pictures, we gave him a proper burial.
