 People just leave vintage tools in the fields to rust away.

 Maury River 
The red sign in the distance is a warning sign. A high school student went over the dam there and was killed a number of years ago. The currents are pretty severe at times at this location. The old railroad bridge was turned into a footbridge, but it was washed away two times and never rebuilt. I have taken pictures of this area in the sumer but never in the winter.

Our Visit to the Peaks of Otter

One of Bud’s and my favorite places to stay for a weekend or visit for a day is Peaks of Otter Lodge up on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Bedford, Virginia. Yesterday was a cool, breezy day so off we went, and here is a collection of shots from our ride and walk around Abbot Lake.

Peaks of Otter Lodge

When you look across Abbott Lake in the first picture, 

you would see the lodge back off to the left. It sits on that long stretch of land.

Sharp Top Mountain, Abbott Lake, fences, a row boat, clouds, 
shadows, and reflections.

Foot bridges, the tunnel over to the Johnson Farm, lots of shadows, 

and a bit of Buddy in the distance.

The tree shots were taken while I was resting on the bench. I was pretending I was Georgia O’Keefe lying on the ground drawing the trees above me...but this time I was taking pictures with my old pink Canon point and shoot of the bare trees stretching their arms towards the sky.

I took this after 2 miles. They did a loop to get warmed up before hitting the real woods. He waved at me and off he went. No time to stop and chat.

He had to cross several streams...one up to his knees. It scares me to death being that he is one of those that never learned to swim.

 It never stopped misting rain...sometimes heavier than others.

 There were many SERIOUS climbs

 with LOTS of slippery rocks to get across.

 He was happy to see this footbridge :-)

 His race color was the red.

 I was driving out after the race started when I spotted this fascinating rock.

 There were rain droplets over all the grass. For some reason this is my favorite shot of all the ones I took around the race site.

This is the road I was driving on and the one the runners ran on. There were several places where there were rubber thingies sticking up. Am assuming that was to help with mud wash and pothole prevention from all the rain.

This was taken just a bit farther down the road. 

 This is the one shot Bud took that really made me grin.

He said these horseshoes were in the path at the finish.

What a great idea!
