Maury River
The red sign in the distance is a warning sign. A high school student went over the dam there and was killed a number of years ago. The currents are pretty severe at times at this location. The old railroad bridge was turned into a footbridge, but it was washed away two times and never rebuilt. I have taken pictures of this area in the sumer but never in the winter.

well, the dusting of snow looked pretty while it lasted on the hills/mountains. and i like the vintage implements shot, too.
ReplyDeleteAll gorgeous shots genie! I was going to comment especially on some of t he first ones, and then we just kept going on and on with great shots. HOpe your week is going well so far
ReplyDeleteBeautiful winter pictures. I don't think I would go near that dam. I had an aha moment when I saw that cattle fence. I wondered how some cows that I have seen haven't gotten out when the gate has been open. Now I know.
ReplyDeleteCold and colder here. I thought we were to have 4 inches of snow last night or today. That didn't happen. It keep piling up.
I bet you do miss school. Just think of those cold mornings that you get to stay home. You are doing great on those quilts.
xo
What beautiful shots! The scenery in the first one is absolutely gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteVery scenic shots for OWT ~ well done ~ thanks,
ReplyDeletethanks, carol

What a nice series of photos. That was fun to look through getting a good idea of your homeland. I really like the cattle guard image in an artistic sense. Good job.
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures of your COLD world, Genie!! I have to apologize to you, along with others for whining about my "winter world"!! All of you would be sure it was spring!! It is gray, but not that cold!! Hope you get a break soon!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful picture show, Genie. I sure love them.
ReplyDeleteWonderful last glimpses of winter.
ReplyDeletePretty photos of the dusting of snow! We see those road closed signs here in Minnesota when we have a blizzard and white out conditions. Which seems to be a lot this winter.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous scenery!
ReplyDeleteNice set of pictures - I am sure the snow will be back! 100+ day here so it must still be winter with you!
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Beautiful shots Genie - I am so glad you are snappin' again. Have a wonderful day. We had snow here again yesterday and roads froze quickly last nigh with temps going way down, but this morning Mr Sun is showing his face .
ReplyDeleteI hope that people write that number down in case they become stranded on the closed drive! What beautiful farm pictures....
ReplyDeleteGenie,
ReplyDeleteNeat set of countryside pictures. The vintage tools
is my favorite shot.
Beautiful captures. I confess, I might have a few vintage pieces of equipment sitting out around my farm too.
ReplyDeleteGosh, so many pretty scenes!

Love your captures! My most favorite is I think your second one because of the design. It looks like winter!!
ReplyDeleteI like the soft pattern the snow has made on the mountains.
ReplyDelete(and I had a little chuckle at Rajesh's comment "last glimpse of winter" If only! We have more snow on the way tonight and another deep freeze next week.
Nice series of photographs posted this week for Skywatch Friday.

ReplyDeletebeautiful views Genie… here the snow is trying to melt, it is quite musical dripping from the roof… no bare patches on the ground though.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of a beautiful part of VA, I've some good memories of camping out next to the Maury River, fishing for trout and cooking them over an open fire. Hello Neighbor, I'm in southwest VA.
ReplyDeleteWhat great shots of your Appalachian world!
ReplyDeleteShadowy Stream
That's quite a variety of weather and landscape! I do love the wintry shadows. They are very fleeting as they won't last long!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful perspectives of this world. Love how you give us the central scene first and then wander round getting closer views. Especially love the first two scenes and the last photo.
ReplyDeleteso much to like in your collection this week! I love the layers of the land shots!
ReplyDeleteA really nice group of great photos! You live in a beautiful area.
ReplyDeleteOf course, where there is an old farm, there is an old truck sitting around (4th photo).
