Wear Hunter Orange

Pay Attention and Wear Hunter Orange

“There is certainly something in angling
that tends to produce a serenity of the mind.
~Washington Irving

These fences and gates are typical of Rockbridge County, VA...
nothing like the beautiful ones of Texas, but the sign is one I have never seen before. I suppose because of all the accidental shootings during the different hunting seasons, these new signs are the way of the future. Sadly, I still saw quite a few fishermen on that first day of trout season not wearing their Blaze/Hunter orange. The old wooden fencing dates back a long, long time, but is as pretty as the day it was installed.

Cathedral Cafe and Buddy’s Crooked Road 24 Race

The Cathedral Cafe ~ Fayetteville, WV

the Canary in the Cave trail race)

Way too chilly to eat outside.

Welcome Sign and Original Doors into Sanctuary

The inside is very, very cozy.

The chalkboard signs are done so creatively.

 Stained Glass from the Inside

The choir upstairs is now  a little consignment/used sales area.

The old wood and the stained glass rectangles
of these old windows are beautiful.
Fortunately, none of the wood has been painted.
More Chalkboard Signs

Reflections from the two windows on one of the tables.

All the tables are handprinted like these three.

Bud’s Crooked Road Race

Buddy just finished the Crooked Road 24 Hour Race at Rocky Mount, Va, which began Saturday at 8:00A.M. and finished today at 8:00A.M. He slept Friday night and off and on during the race in his old Vibe. It was so cold in there Friday night his Power Bars froze and the windows were covered in frost from his breath.I made him as warm a bed as I could to go with his sleeping bag. These pictures he sent home via iPhone.

During the 24 hours, runners could stop and rest whenever they needed, and there was lots of good food and drink for the 24 hours...soup, pizza, hamburgers, yummy boiled potatoes and lots more. Volunteers manned the course from start to finish. It was at Waid Park on a hybrid figure eight style track/trail.
Bud took these views for us:

He ran a total of 100K which is 2.4 marathons...I hope I have it straight, because I do not get running distances at all. I’ve asked him so many times trying to make sure I have it correct that I think he is worn out with me :-) I just don’t get it! When he came thru the door at noon, he was hobbling and sounded terrible (sort of mumbling), so he has been sleeping off and on all afternoon. He ran farther than he did last year so is a VERY happy husband, and I’m a VERY happy wife that he was able to break his 2014 record and made it home safely.

A volunteer and another runner were kind enough
to take these shots on his iPhone for him to have.

50K Completed
Little Sign ~ Long Run

He looks SO happy...maybe he’s just glad it’s finally over.

The Canna-Bus

While my son, his wife, and our Eloise were visiting his brother and family near Seattle, he spotted this bus as his wife and daughter were crossing the street.  It was such a one-of-a-kind picture I just had to share it with you all. It makes me grin.We are definitely living in a changing world.

A Sign Which Needs No Words

One of my pals is Mata McGuire. We've known each other for 35 years. Until recently she lived all the way across town, but now she is my country neighbor out here on the creek. Instead of a mailbox with her last name on it, she decided to identify herself by this one-in-a-million "toMATA!" Her driveway is just to the right. It is SO typical of her personality. Just couldn't resist posting it for my contribution this week to Lesley's "Signs,Signs" meme.

Mr. Halloween and His Warning ~ DP 11-1-12

This sign was hanging in a hostel where Buddy was staying on his hike in Maine this summer. It may not be the best piece of photography, but I think is has to be one of the funniest.

Here's Bud as Mr. Halloween for the kiddies Trick or Treating in town this afternoon. What a good sport! He's sitting in the window of the outfitter's store with his candy in hand.

It's Harvest Time at McDonalds ~ Daily Photo 10-24-12

This little sign was hanging in the McDonalds near the Greenbriar in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. It was one impressive MickeyD's, but I guess it had to be so near to the Greenbriar Resort.

Here's to You Mrs. Robinson

Thank goodness I am finally back online. My laptop was very ill for two weeks, and I had to wait for my son to come to Lexington to get it up and working again. My entire iPhoto library was destroyed and the backup had not backed up anything. Fortunately, everything was fine with our iMac, and that photo library was not affected. The other problem was my hateful spine had to wait for him to bring me my new high backed, padded, swivel desk chair to sit in when I'm using the iMac. I can adjust it so the back is at a bit of a reclining angle. The seat and arms move up and down and all around, too. It is one heavenly chair. Finally, I am up and running and glad to be back amongst my blogging friends.

Pike Place Market ~ Seattle, Washington
I couldn't resist taking a picture of these tiles considering my last name is Robinson and people are always singing the first line of the song to me. It's been going on for years and years! I spotted them just to the side of the steps going down to the lower level. The feet belong to my two grandsons. Too bad the tiles were put there by "Tom" instead of Buddy.
