Spring Skies and Shadows

I have posted pictures of our Kerrs Creek Baptist Church, but they have been taken in the winter and not from this perspective. Today the sky was magical. The creek is carrying lots of water because we have had lots of rain. More coming tonight.

Maple Tree Leaves about Gone ~ Daily Photo ~ 10-2-12

I took this picture as I was leaving for school this morning.  In just a week, my big old maple is about out of leaves because they are all here on the ground thanks to the wind and the rains. They are so colorful and pretty. It was so damp and chilly last night, I actually turned up the gas heaters for a bit. Boy, did that warmth feel good.

The Gate That Is a Fence

I know this is a gate, but it is hooked to two fence posts and works both as a fence and a gate. There is an old road bed that runs under it. Our property is to the right and our neighbor’s is to the left...and he has the key. My two sons are already on the other side and rest of us are waiting to climb up and over or tromp around the post through the briars and the brambles. Back when we heated with a wood store, we would drive our old Land Rover up this so-called "road” to cut our wood. Thank goodness we don’t do that anymore. Turning on the propane heaters in this old farmhouse is lots easier. Yes, that is a “posted" sign on the post because we do not want hunters tromping up above the houses and killing the turkey and deer. I doubt it really works. If we can climb the fencing gate, they can, too. My younger son is on the right and the older one who was visiting is on the left. Our friend and Eloise are in front. Buddy and I are bringing up the rear, and you know who has the camera :-)

As we were coming down from the walk atop our ridge, this is what we saw... Big House and Little House Mountains in the distance and the Teaford and Rexrode barns. The fencing is around the Rexrode farm.

High Water

This is the creek in front of our house which I usually shoot when the water is low and all the rocks are showing. After two days of continual rain, the creeks and rivers are swollen. If you look closely, you will see what I call “creek waves” with white caps. It is roaring out there. Fortunately, our house is not in the flood plain, and the waters have never gotten up to our front porch.
