Trains and Signs

I am still trying to teach myself how to create my own collages/mosaics from scratch. I got the sizing/constraining off a bit in the first one, but I did better with the second thanks to a wonderful tutorial by Kim Klassen. It has taken me all day long to get to this point. The nuns definitely taught me to persevere.

I Had Company for Luncheon Today
We got our second mini snow today, and who did I see but my little pal. Guess he was really hungry because I did not seem to upset him too much. I have to giggle a bit when I look at his position in the first picture. Can you imagine eating your dinner holding on like that? It is so good to be back online. I've missed you all and hope that each and every one of you has had a wonderful holiday and you are ready to ring in 2013. Time just flies by when you are busy taking pictures!
Being such a newbe to photographing birds, I had to go to my Sibley's book to try to identify this fine feathered friend. After looking at all the pictures of woodpeckers, I have decided that I THINK it is a Downy. Please help me....am I right or wrong? Remember, I need all the help I can get.

Remembering the Children ~ December 14, 2012
On April 19, 1995, Timothy McVeigh bombed the Murah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and damaged or destroyed 324 other buildings. Of the 168 people killed, 19 were children. Today we lost 20 children and 6 adults in a senseless killing spree at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. After the Oklahoma City killings I did a series of cards entitled "Remembering the Children." Tonight I went upstairs and searched out that series of little watercolors, and I am posting them for our Skywatch Friday. As you can see, my little drawings depicted the children as angels floating up through the blue sky to Heaven. My artwork is terribly primitive, but it came from the heart in 1995, and it once again comes from the heart on December 14, 2012...a heart that is weeping once again.

Red Hill Farm ~ Lexington, VA
This home dates back to the Civil War. It sits at the top of a winding road so this was all I could capture of it from down below. You are seeing only the second floor. It is a huge old place in excellent shape with lots of chimneys and porches. Maybe one day I will get up nerve enough to go drive up the driveway, knock on the front door, and ask the owners about the history of the place. I pass it going in and out of town and continue to be in awe of its beautiful architecture and amazing longevity. I can just picture ladies in their long dresses with the crinolines under them and those floppy colorful hats on their heads sitting on the verandas enjoying the good life.
