It’s Halloween Time at the Jeter Farm

Our Weekend Visit to the Jeter Farm

“Pleasure is spread through the earth
In stray gifts to be claimed by whoever shall find.”
~William Woodsworth, 1806

Buddy and I had the best time. Thank you Tanya at Around Roanoke, VA,  for your post about the Jeter Farm, because without you we would not have known about it. She included lots of information about the farm if you would like to learn its history. Everyone there was a CHILD...little ones, medium sized ones, and old ones like me. Bud and I did it all. Everyone was HAPPY. No one was yelling at anyone else. No children were crying. People were so polite to one another. IT WAS MAGICAL. We went thru the corn maze, rode the hay ride, children shot ears of corn from an air gun, we shot pumpkins into the pond (we both overshot the water) from an air pumpkin canon, ate Jeter home grown beef hamburgers with roasted corn, walked all over looking at the wee ones have such a good time, and I even went down the hill slide...and my back survived the rough landing at the bottom :-) None of the pictures need any words. They say it all without them. We all need more days like this one. A bit of old fashioned happiness is good for everyone.

WV Trilogy ~ 2015 ~ Part 5 ~ Final ~ Shadows & Reflections

Our  entire weekend was filled with shadows. Here are a few.

Shadows around the Yurts

Shadows up on Spruce Knob Hike

As tradition has it...Bud always takes a shot of me resting...including another shadow.

Here’s Bud trying to get his iPhone to balance on the rock. That was a tricky thing to do. What’s the blob on his face? Is it something on the lens...or maybe just the way the light was hitting it?

He got it, FINALLY, with a wee shadow at the back.

I was so surprised to see the reflection of the trees in the back window...and I think there is part of the front porch in shadows, too.  Packing the car is always such a pain in the old back. Here we had just begun the undertaking.

Shadows in Town and on the Trail

Eloise flipping her hair like little girls love to do.

Buddy running one of his races. Picture compliments of Mountain Junkies
of Roanoke. They sponsor many of the runs Bud likes so much, and they allow us any of their photos free of charge. They are just the BEST and take the BEST pictures during their races!

Fish & Fences; Skies & Shadows

I thought I had ruined this picture by having it on movie instead of photo on the iPhone. Well, dog-gone-it...I didn’t, and now I get to post it. Was putting gas n the car at a local truck stop where the gas is only $3.15, and I watched this truck pull in. When I focused in on the FISH, I knew I had to post it. To me, this is one of those one-of-a-kind change photos. The men were up on the top opening the compartments and sticking the pole in them.

Live Fish at the Raphine Truck Stop

Washington and Lee University and Lee Chapel
where R.E. Lee and his horse, Traveller, are buried.

 Bud, atop Terrapin Mountain.
No, I did not climb it with him. This was taken by a friend of ours.
I just had to post it because it is such a great shot of him.
He looks so happy to be where he is.

Bud calls these “Phantom Deer.”

There was something about the vertical silos and the horizontal fences that caught my eye as Bud was driving...an iPhone 4 drive-by. It was another dark and dreary day.

This Bud’s for ME!

There was NO way I was going to pass up this sign. But, the Jefferson had it all wrong...This bud’s for ME!

Different races but the the same basic outfit..except for the hats.
Bud is a man of habit, and he’s always smiling when he’s going to a race.

Canary in the Cave Run

Canary in the Cave 25K + Trail Run ~ Fayetteville, WV
(The Run Was Approximately 18 Miles)

Bud fired off this picture to let me know he was closing in on the finish...
I thought...

"Buddy....I am tired of waiting....where are you? You went me a photo of the "one more mile to go” sign ages ago, but you’re still NOT here..."

Buddy Crossing the Finish Line

In all races someone comes in FIRST and then someone has the memorable honor of coming in LAST. Well, that was my Buddy. They cut it off after him so all the remaining runners behind were disqualified. He would make LOTS better time if he would leave that darn iPhone in his pocket instead of stopping all along the way to take pictures. He had a great time. The WV sponsored runs are so nice, and we love the people sponsoring them.
