3-13-16 ~ Weezie and Buddy

"A friend is one of the nicest things you can have,
and one of the best things you can be.:
~Douglas Pagels

This picture was taken at the nursing home of my dear friend, Weezie, and Buddy. It is almost impossible to get her to smile, but somehow I pulled it off this time...probably because her photo was being taken with Buddy. We had a wonderful visit, and I will post more pictures of us in the future.

March 5, 2016 ~ Weezie and Genie in Purple and Lavender

"Don't walk behind me: I may not lead.
Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow.
Just walk beside me and be my friend."
~Albert Camus

These two girls represent my best friend, Weezie, and me. She and I have been best friends for 50 years, reared out children together, lived across the street from one another (I actually lived in the home in which she grew up), and now she is in an extended care facility with serious RA and after having had heart attacks, a stroke, and now she is having memory problems. My husband is taking me to see her Mar. 9 and 10 (it's too far for me to drive alone) because I an so afraid she could become more ill if I wait too long. These little pictures that I draw are my way of dealing with my sadness and a way to keep our happy times together alive and doing well. We were so close and our two families were like one extended family. She is the Godmother of my middle child, and he and his wife named their daughter, Eloise, for her. This little building reminds me of some of the flats in Cancun and in Ireland (two of our trips together) and San Juan. They were all painted pastel colors, had window boxes with flowers, and so very pretty. Many had the little balconies on the second floor.

Here are 2 photos of us...one taken as we were leaving for Ireland in 1996, and the other is the last photo I have of the two of us taken at the nursing home in early 2015.

 It is so hard to believe that this was taken almost 20 years ago.

This was taken at the nursing home in Asheville, NC.

# 20 ~ Wildflowers, Eloise and Weezie

“Gardening is about enjoying the smell of things growing in the soil, getting dirty without
feeling guilty, and generally taking the time to soak up a little peace and serenity."
~Karstens, no Poproblemgarden.

This post is linked with Color Me Positive 2016, where the prompt this week is Wildflowers. Click here to see other collages with wildflowers in them. These girls are some wonderful artists. I got way too many different wildflowers from my archives, and ended with my layers overlapping and edging showing and not as I would liked them. I tried for hours to get everything merged together flawlessly to no avail. Finally, I got so upset and frustrated I had to stop. There is a point where I just have to stop and accept my mess ups and remind myself I am at the beginning of learning a new medium. The mistakes will come out in the wash in time. As I persevere, I hope to improve because I surely adore this medium.

Sadly, Weezie is in an nursing home in Asheville, NC, where we used to live across the street from one another. My family actually lived in the house where she lived growing up. She has had several strokes and heart attacks. I always say she was the good one and I was the mischievous one...so I should be the one in the nursing home and not her. I miss her so much. Her daughter is like my daughter, and I talk to her frequently. Buddy drove me to see Weezie during the fall, and I had three days with her...what a precious gift he gave me. I live to see her again...I LOVE her so much. She is a true BFF...a friend who loves me unconditionally.  She has had several very close calls, but God was kind, and He decided it was not time yet for her to go home. Putting this digital collage together was such fun and a bit therapeutic.

They don’t even need to talk for weeks.
But when they do, it’s like they never stopped talking.”

#19 ~ Bunnies and Nuns

This post is linked with Digital Whisper Dreamers Challenge.
The prompt this week was bunnies.
~~~~~
This was my sister’s nun doll from Holy Angels Academy in Saint Louis, MO. I was educated my Dominican nuns who wore white habits, but this doll still holds a very special place in my life. The detail to the habit is stunning. I am 76 and my sister would have been 88, so it is understandable that the material is in such bad shape. This is my Tuesday Treasure for Tom’s meme. #11~ Cats and Eyes
      Thank you for all of your kind comments about my Children’s Series somewhat focusing on the Oklahoma City Bombings and how I expressed my sadness with the loss of those 19 little innocents  using art. The thought that went into the words you wrote to me meant more than you will know, and I have read all of your replies over and over again. I was very hesitant to post my cards, but after a lot of thought I decided to just go ahead and do it. My feelings were I should be posting these to my other blog, "Buttons for Baga", because these were not photography, but I reminded myself that I have been posting my sewing and quilting to this site for a long time.
Today I am posting two...one from 1996 and a new one. I hope they make you giggle. The first one is about four women who met each other every summer for a week in Charleston, SC, year after year after year, and as our daughters aged they were included, too. Now, only two of us are out and about. One has been in and out of the hospital for quite a few years with serious problems, and the other is in an extended care facility. One of the daughters has the scrapbook of all our happy years together, so our girls will have that to look at in the years to come.
