6-5-16 ~ A Barn, Flowers, and a Sad Week at the Robinson Homeplace

This week I had to have my beloved pal of 16 years, Little Jack the Schnauzer, put down because of kidney failure, incontinence, and advanced dementia. I never knew dogs could get dementia, but Jack was having a terrible time getting lost and just not responding. He laid in his little bed crate almost all day. It has broken my heart as I have never killed or had to have a doctor put down any animal in my life (a ground stinging bee hive attacking me and flies so not count). I had no idea how hard it was going to effect me, but there has been some real depression. As always, I draw to try to get over the doldrums so here is my first beginning sketch. Jack is NOT a girl as you all know, but I love bows so put them on him. The lighting was terrible this morning so please excuse the dark gritty places in both pictures.

As the week went on, I decided to try to come up with something happy that included him so created... The Kerrs Creek 2016 Beauty Contest with him as the Judge from up in Doggie Heaven. In case you cannot read the names of the contestants here they are...
Edgar Egret
Kelly Kitty
Brenda Bluebird
Matilda Mouse
Claudette Cow
Roscoe Rabbit
As you notice, they all have their little red hearts on them.
Just hunt and you will see them.

So, how do you put a smile on a sad old face....well, you go out and take pictures of a very old barn of a friend and all the wildflowers he planted 3 years ago and has nurtured them day after day. Thank you, Tom, for giving me a reason to brighten my days this week. For anyone wanting to see more pretty barns, go to Tom the Backroads Traveler's Barn Collective. This post is also linked with I Heart Macro and Macro Monday 2

  2. Oh Genie, what a perfect way to work through your feelings. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Our pets win our hearts when we aren't looking. And they stay there even after they are gone.

  4. My condolences, Genie. We never really get over our sense of loss from losing a family member or a loved pet, but with time the pain does ease. Jack is now free from his pain. Good you were able to let your creative juices flow in shooting these pictures.

  6. Oh I am so sorry for you and Buddy. I know all to well how you are feeling having been there myself. Pets give us so much joy throughout their life. The best thing to do is try to think you did Jack a favor easing his life that had become something he could not understand. You both are in my thoughts always.

  10. Oh Genie, so sad to hear about your dog. It is terrible to loose a pet, they are like children, part of the family. I have several ones lost and I never get used to it. One was paralized by a car accident on the road in front of our home and had to put down and another one had also kidney disease. Wish you all the best.

  11. I lost my wonderful Airedale 6 years ago and could still sit down and cry about it. I had started my blog when she was sick as a bit of a distraction! They are special creatures that become such a part of our lives. So sorry for your loss, Genie.

  17. It is a heartbreaking thing to have to say goodbye to long time family members, that just happen to be animals. They seem to have access to a part of our heart, that is not available to humans.

  18. Dear Genie, I know how you feel. I had to put my Sally down 7 years ago. For 2 years, I could not imagine not missing her everyday and not crying every time I thought about her. But the pain did ease over time and now every time I think of her, I think of the good times we had with her. Time will ease your pain. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your Beauty Contest. It made me smile. Thank you.

  20. I am so sorry to read that you lost your little dog. Nothing can really be said except wishing you all the best in getting over your loss. It takes time, but that gives you the opportunity to remember all the wonderful times you had together. I'm glad you turn to drawing and painting, it's very rewarding.
