6-26-16 ~ Steven's Barn and Our Old Land Rover

Once again it is time for Tom the Backroads Traveller's Barn Collective. Please some and join.

This is the old Steven's barn just down the road from us where STILL sits our old and beloved blue and white Land Rover.  It's has been resting there for way over 25 years. Gene is still wanting me to buy it back from his son even tho it probably does not run. Remember...it was my eldest son who after a driving lesson in the front field turned it over into the creek crossing our Bridge to Somewhere. I see it every time I go in or out of town and wish we still had it...all 6 miles to the gallon.

I just had to add this watercolor I finished yesterday. My precious Eloise has now finished elementary school and is off to middle school in September....oh, dear...now the fun really starts. I posted it on my Buttons for Baga art blog, but wanted to share it here, too. The little girls are all her pals. Some went to her school and some to other schools. The ones with the National Elementary Junior Honor Society scarves around their necks were at her school. Add one more thumbs up from me for my granddaughter's job well done!

6-19-16 ~ The Old Knick Red Barn

Once again it is time for Tom the Backroads Traveler's Barn Collective. Please join him with your pictures of barns you have seen and photographed. This is such a special little meme with all varieties and sizes of barns old and new...and even some that are falling down.

This barn sits across the road from us. It was owned by the Knick family who built our house...the one you all saw in the vintage picture I posted a while back. Larry had serious heart disease plus advanced diabetes but continued to live as our neighbor after a heart transplant for around 15 years. He was such a dear friend to Bud and me, and every time I got myself in a jam he would come and bail me out. I would get the riding mower hung up on a rock time and time again, and I was always trying to move furniture getting it stuck or turning it over. I didn't call Ghostbusters, though...I called Larry, and he came ASAP. The last thing he did was put me up a new mailbox with his grandson helping him. After he passed away the house sat empty for a long time, and then the remaining brothers and his widow sold it to the Zollman family. They have re-roofed the barn, added the quilt painting to the top, and moved in a little outbuilding. We miss out dear friend, but it is so nice to have someone living in the little green house once again.

Mr. Zollman usually has his white truck parked horizontally in from of the barn which made taking a picture of the new quilt addition not very nice. Then....one day I was coming home and I hit the jackpot...a sunny beautiful day, my iPhone with me, and no white truck.

I cropped the shot down as much as I could so you could see the little quilt square. 

I have always wanted a quilt block on our barn, so to have one across the road make me a very happy country girl. Maybe one day I will get one here. That would be icing on the cake.

6-5-16 ~ A Barn, Flowers, and a Sad Week at the Robinson Homeplace

This week I had to have my beloved pal of 16 years, Little Jack the Schnauzer, put down because of kidney failure, incontinence, and advanced dementia. I never knew dogs could get dementia, but Jack was having a terrible time getting lost and just not responding. He laid in his little bed crate almost all day. It has broken my heart as I have never killed or had to have a doctor put down any animal in my life (a ground stinging bee hive attacking me and flies so not count). I had no idea how hard it was going to effect me, but there has been some real depression. As always, I draw to try to get over the doldrums so here is my first beginning sketch. Jack is NOT a girl as you all know, but I love bows so put them on him. The lighting was terrible this morning so please excuse the dark gritty places in both pictures.

As the week went on, I decided to try to come up with something happy that included him so created... The Kerrs Creek 2016 Beauty Contest with him as the Judge from up in Doggie Heaven. In case you cannot read the names of the contestants here they are...

So, how do you put a smile on a sad old face....well, you go out and take pictures of a very old barn of a friend and all the wildflowers he planted 3 years ago and has nurtured them day after day. Thank you, Tom, for giving me a reason to brighten my days this week.
