The Cellblock is CLOSED!
It was a beautiful day for my last day at Rockbridge Middle School this year. It is still up for grabs if the school board will refund my position for ’12-’13 which just happens to be the LAST year of our school. It will be sold or rented out. We will move to a consolidated middle school in Lexington. I usually hear the week before school starts that I still have a job. This year I will be happy either way. I started this profession at 20 and I am now 73. Maybe it is time to pull the plug and let me really be retired.
Reserved for Buses and Genie
The one spot to the right of the sign is for any spare buses that show up in the afternoon. Being the old lady I am, my principal lets me park in that spare bus slot. If school were in session and a driver needed that spot, the driver who always gets there first would come inside, get my keys, and move it for me.
Yep, on my last day of the year I parked
my trusty old Pontiac Vibe right there.

ReplyDeleteThat's along career you have had Genie. Only ou will know when you are ready to retire.
ReplyDeleteOh great you have free time now, at least for a couple of weeks. It would be better if you could stop working for good. It is so nice to have time of your own to spend. I love it, here people stop at 65 and I even stopped at 62.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have a break, whether it be a couple of months or forever. Rest and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHappy Summer Vacation. Lovely shots from your last day. That's good that you don't mind either way about continuing with your job. I hope it all works out for the best.
ReplyDeleteGenie....time to take a deep breath and relax for a little while my friend.
ReplyDeleteHugs...Vicki
I suggest you walk away and never look back. It's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on surviving another year. I have a great admiration for teachers, and you have certainly put in your time! My hubby taughter for 30 years and he was very ready to quit when he had the chance. He always said it wasn't the students that drove him crazy, but rather the administration!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations indeed and, yes, take a deep breath, relax and enjoy the moment -- all of them one at a time. There's time to decide where you go from there!! Great post for the day -- complete with lovely skies!! Enjoy your weekend, Genie, all of them!!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
I'm in awe of your long and amazing career. Congratulations and happy sky watch!!
ReplyDeleteJust think how many photos you could take, if you had all the time in the world to do so...
ReplyDeleteI know it's always a hard decision. I worked several years beyond my retirement eligibility date. I'm SO glad I retired...

You'll miss it I think!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteyay, welcome to summer!!! that's a pretty amazing career you have had!
ReplyDeleteI'm betting that there will kids that miss you Genie - also betting they call you back for that last year - you have so much more to give these children and if it is the last year of the school, well, I guess you will retire with it. Sad to see schools close and then have to travel to already packed schools.
ReplyDeleteYou are free for the summer - enjoy your holiday too.
Best wishes and have a nice weekend and that weekend will last approx 2 months :)
