Jack is our 11 year old “very challenged” dog. He cannot jump up on anything....if he gets into a narrow room, he backs out of it instead of turning around and walking out...he is continually trying to dig a hole through our floors to China and it drives us nuts...he barks at his shadow...if we let him out the front door he can run around the property and show up on the back deck, but he cannot figure out how to get off the back deck and back into the front yard...BUT...he is lovable and in a way fits perfectly into this crazy old house. He may be a “full bred” schnauzer with some funky looking papers on him, but he does not act like one and his hair looks and feels like it is coated in Crisco...so we keep him shaved back. He is definitely one unique dog.I really don’t think he would have survived with any other family. He’s lived a long and good life, and I guess he has quite a few more years to go trying to get to China.

Sometimes I feel like Jack. I no longer can jump up OR down on anything and if I don't wash my hair (what I have left) each morning, yeah the Crisco look. At least I haven't begun barking at my shadow and I can still find my way back into the house. I like how you ended your story. My Sinbad just turned 11 last month while we were on the road. He's doing fine with growing older - better than I am. Nice post. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteOur pets have their quirks, just like our family members do! He's still a cutie!
ReplyDeleteHe's obviously a great character. Dogs are lovely people.
ReplyDeleteYour description of Jack reminded me of my previous dog. He was not the most intelligent one around but very lovable. He would attack trees and chew at the bark so our neighbours thought there had been a bear in the area... That was just his way of telling me how mucg fun it was to get out for a long walk... I miss him!
ReplyDeleteJack is definitely a cutie. Great shots of him.
ReplyDeleteHe's sure a cutie! Quirks and all. :)
ReplyDeleteI love these Genie...my husband grew up with schnauzer's so they have a special place in our hearts. We have a standard poodle...such a love.
ReplyDeleteso glad he ended up in your household where he could thrive and be loved!
ReplyDeletePrecious, An intriguing mosaic in B & W
ReplyDeleteDo not worry about your comments, I find very creative. The main quality of the abstract is that you can develop the creativity of l viewer, sometimes more enlightening results that the author himself. The important thing is to say what you feel and see without any hindrance.
We have a miniature schnauzer, they are a great breed. Jack looks quite content, I'm sure he's loved in spite of his 'issues'.
ReplyDeleteI know it is not funny in ways, but this post tickled me. He is one blessed little doggie to have you guys.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he has you to ove him. We all have our challenges. Poor baby.
ReplyDeleteGenie - so nice to meet your "Jack", he sounds delightful and I am sure he picked you. WOW, 11 and my Jack is just turning 7 in December. Wonderful family and complete family - complete because of your pet. Any pet completes a family and I think they adopt us, eh :)
ReplyDeleteMy Jack (Jacqueline) is a Cairn Terrier, like Dorothy's dog in "Wizard of Oz", and yes, she is just like ToTo :)
Thanks and great photos of your Jack
