A Snowy Friday Fences out on the Creek

The cow pasture across the road from our house.
The snow was really coming down. The skies were gray,
but it was a beautiful day for this old Florida girl.

It's Been Cold Here on the Creek

A Sign Which Needs No Words

One of my pals is Mata McGuire. We've known each other for 35 years. Until recently she lived all the way across town, but now she is my country neighbor out here on the creek. Instead of a mailbox with her last name on it, she decided to identify herself by this one-in-a-million "toMATA!" Her driveway is just to the right. It is SO typical of her personality. Just couldn't resist posting it for my contribution this week to Lesley's "Signs,Signs" meme.

The Journey Begins

My computer is FINALLY back up and running, but it is still a bit of a mess, and it's gonna be a while before it is working the way I want it to operate.  This whole experience has drained my "computer patience" so I'm taking it one little step at a time. Yes, I am taking another of Kim Klassen's classes called "Beyond, Beyond." Our first assignment was to take 10 pictures of one subject without moving that subject and to keep a journal of the nit-picky mundane things we do each day looking at them from a different point of view. My "mundane" choice for my journal was cleaning of the  stove and oven each night ( it turned into something really interesting),  and my "choice of photos" was this one with my glasses, my journal, and the unicycle. Once I finished taking the pictures, I was to choose a favorite and post it. I was experimenting with depth of field so the blur in the photo made me happy. Hope all of you are well. I've missed your photos these past weeks. Surely, this is the LAST time I self-destruct my computer. 3 times in 12 months are enough for a lifetime! I really do think I bought a lemon this time. Thanks again for all of your suggestions and encouragement. There really is comfort in numbers when it's coming to the crashing of one's computer. I now have a portable external hard drive designated to the MacBook Pro and have ordered another. From everything I have read, I now know I need to have a back up for the back up.

HAPPY OUR WORLD TUESDAY TO ALL OF YOU:-)

Update on Genie's MacBook Pro

~Had to wipe out everything....gone...nada...vamoos...no tears...just acceptance on my part...

~I did make a DVD of my huge texture file on desktop and other important stuff there that I use all the time...

~My MacBook Pro is backed up to the Time Machine thingy, but I do not want to do a complete migration because I will be bringing back in corrupted info., and we still do not know what is corrupted.

~iMac is backed up to a huge Iomega external hard drive, but I am now doing an additional back up of that 25,000 picture iPhoto library, my Lightroom 4 catalog, and my Photoshop Elements 10 catalog to a new, portable Toshiba 500 GB hard drive that I can carry with me to work from. My Pro does not have the huge memory of the iMac so cannot bring over all of the pictures. Thank goodness I have the right cable to do a partial migration  from the iMac to the MacBook Pro

~The Tech still did not determine if the hard drive was bad, and I am upset about that. I kept telling the tech I wanted to determine whether the hard drive was bad, but we did not learn. I am going to address that issue when the Apple Care man calls today. Bet I end up buying my own new hard drive and having Gene install it for me like he told me to do in the first place.

~So, as of this morning the computer has been wiped out and the new system has downloaded. The migration work starts this afternoon

~It is a **** good thing I am a mother of 3 and have taught school for 53 years  because I have the patience of Job and will persevere until I collapse ...the nuns taught me that one...hahaha

~Will be back with an update...keep your fingers crossed I am up and running by the weekend...

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS ABOUT MAKING MULTIPLE BACKUPS. I AM DOING JUST THAT.

BAH HUMBUG on January 14th, 2013

~MacbookPro  Is Messed Up AGAIN!!!.
~Am having to wait for Apple to continue trying to work with me on Tuesday night
~We have spent hours on it still to no avail.
~All pictures in iPhoto corrupted and is causing entire machine to work improperly.
~Got to head honcho in department at Apple Care, and he said he had never seen a case like this where it had happened over and over again. We spent all day yesterday.
~Going to try to partition computer. Told me to drag iPhoto library to thumb drive, but I cannot even do that. I am sososososososo sick of the gears turning and that ****beach ball going around
and around and around endlessly.
~Yesterday it would not even let me hook up to the wireless.
~I can only sit at the big iMac for 15 minutes at a time without problems, so will try to post there as quickly as possible if I can.
~YUCK! UGH! BAH HUMBUG! DOG-GONE-IT! PAIN IN THE YOU KNOW WHAT!

As in "Oliver"......Be Back Soon......I hope.

Buddy's Black and Whites

Dinner Bell at the Knick House

 The Dam at Douthat Lake
The lake is really down so there is no water flowing over the dam.

 Just Another Winter Hike

Buddy took all of these pictures so I need to give credit where credit is due. I really would love for him to start his own photography blog devoted to his hiking and rural lifestyle. He is so good with his iPhone and his Canon Point and Shoot. I really love these three shots and must say I am sososo proud of him.

Friday Fences #65 ~ 1-11-13

The view on the other side of this fence was a real eye pleaser for me. The wind was a-blowin' right smartly, and as always, the picture was taken just down the road from our place. Now, I have a question for y'all...have any of you ever thought about whether I am supposed to be saying "up and road" or "down the road" from my house? Which is which? I was a city girl before moving here 35 years ago, so I do not have a clue as to which is proper and when I should use which one. All suggestions will be greatly received :-)

Hodge Podge of Skies

Buddy and one of my good teacher pals before the Frosted Toe Run.
The sky really was that blue.

Bright blue and clouds mixed
with a bit of leftover snow thrown in for good measure.

I found this to be a gentle mix of color.

Our view of Roanoke, VA, from up on Mill Mt.

The gray clouds are moving in.

Another sunrise out here on the creek.
The cows are already eating their breakfasts.
What a life!

Come join in on this great meme.

Douthat Lake

The Lake at Douthat State Park ~ January 1, 2013
It was an overcast day when Buddy and I went for our walk, but it was a quiet, beautiful one. The lake was down and just a bit of snow was left on the surrounding mountains. I think we were the only people there. We had the whole park to ourselves. It was wonderful.

Bird Love

The birds are really starting to come, but I have got to get to where I can identify all of them.  I love to see how they sit on their little perches like they are standing guard, doing a ballet dance, solving the problems of the world, or checking how far down it is to terra firma.

Shadows from the Frosty Toe 10K

Today Buddy ran in the "Frosty Toe 10K Run" in Roanoke, VA. It was a bright, nippy, and shadow filled morning. The neatest part of the race was the number of young children who participated with their parents. This was a very family friendly run.

(This is the last minute Port-a-John visit before the start of the race.)
