#8 ~ Cow Alert!

"The difference between a jogger and a runner is an entry blank.”
~George Sheehan

As usual, Buddy was out running this morning. After a while he came in laughing showing me this picture and commenting...”I can’t even run fast enough to pass a cow on the road.” It was so funny I just had to use his picture for my daily post. We have lots of cows getting out on the road. When we see one, that means stopping and calling the owners if we know them. If not we just have to pray it/they do not hit a car. We have a friend who hit one, and it was not a pretty sight...the car or the cow. This little house and the grazing field along side of it are just down the road from us a wee bit, so luckily this time we knew the owner of the naughty cow.

Tomorrow he has his first off road race near Roanoke, VA. It is called the "Frozen Toe" race. If it is nice weather and my back is OK, I am going to go with him. A lot of my school teacher friends run in this race, and it is always fun to get to chat with them for a bit. After that, I want him to take me to the House and Garden Show at the Salem Civic Center and out to lunch at the Chinese restaurant.

  4. We often have the neighbors cows wonder over to our place, but I have never seen one trotting down the road. So funny.

  5. Reminds me of being newly married, renting an old farmhouse in the country and the farm cows would get out quite often! :)

  10. Hi, no one can believe how fast they can be. Driving home one night at dusk we passed two big steers running right next to the road. My husband was sitting in the passenger side. After we passed them I asked if he wasn't going to say anything that those big boys were an arm length from our car, he said he had no words. A little bit of shock. So we called in to report. I am sure the person we talked to hung up and said, "yeah, whatever. ". So tell Buddy they do run fast. I hope you go

  13. Nice - at least the cow was not a bear!

Cricket can take a bit of getting used too - it has a huge rule book! Believe it or not, 81000 people turned out to watch the cricket a couple of days before I went with H. 81000!

  14. A naughty run away cow who wants to explore the world outside of the fence. Hope you all have a great time at the race.

  15. Laughing! We grew up in farm country and are used to seeing a few cows in the road -- but in later years we have managed our big old RV through cattle roundups in Eastern Oregon and bison herds standing in the middle of the road in South Dakota (much the same thing)... it's all good, you just have to make up your mind that you don't have the right of way. (Might be a little annoying and a little scarier on foot though that old cow doesn't look too threatening).
