Wear Hunter Orange

Pay Attention and Wear Hunter Orange

“There is certainly something in angling
that tends to produce a serenity of the mind.
~Washington Irving

These fences and gates are typical of Rockbridge County, VA...
nothing like the beautiful ones of Texas, but the sign is one I have never seen before. I suppose because of all the accidental shootings during the different hunting seasons, these new signs are the way of the future. Sadly, I still saw quite a few fishermen on that first day of trout season not wearing their Blaze/Hunter orange. The old wooden fencing dates back a long, long time, but is as pretty as the day it was installed.

  1. I love the look of post and rail fences. They are commonly used with horses so the horses won't get hurt on them. Hum, 4 miles to the Poor Farm. And here I've been trying to avoid the Poor Farm most of my life.

  3. We do not venture in the woods here when it is gun season for deer, unless it is Roger to hunt. And used to, when he hunted with gun, he would not go on the first few days. Just too dangerous...even with orange.

  4. Yes, a good idea. I remember when my kids went to a tiny school out in the country. They wouldn't let the kids play outside during hunting season. I love old fences because they usually have stories. xo

  5. Yes, hunting season can be scary. We live near the national forest and the only day I would venture there now is Sunday because it's illegal to hunt then.

  13. That Irving quote will be up atMuldoon in the near future. The RG doesn't fish to live, he lives to fish. (and wears the Orange during hunting seasons)

  14. we don't hike much during hunting season...makes me so nervous...you never know if the hunters out there have any experience or not.

  15. That's beautiful. During deer gun season I made sure Mr. C. wore blaze orange when he went to our woods to cut firewood. Personally, I would have waited til the season was over.

  17. I was watching a hiker video a few weeks back and the hiker had this big orange something hanging from his backpack. Later in the video he explained. I never thought.

  18. Good sign!
We have a lot of deer here, and the woods are very dangerous this time of the year (for wildlife and people).

  23. Dearest Genie; Oh, the color orange just reminds me of the tasty juice :-) Well, precaution must be the key for the hunting. First for me to know as well♪

  24. That sign is a great idea. I don't know much about hunting season, but it sounds as if such a colour for clothing helps to warn the unwary.

  25. Hi Genie - Thank you so much for stopping by The Daily Pip and leaving such kind words. Ruby is a rescue dog so I can't say for certain, but we think she's mostly poodle with some yorkshire terrier as well. Her temperament is very gentle and loving. I hope you will stop by our blog again. Thank you!

  27. Oh yeah I remember when I was little living in Arkansas we always had to wear bright clothing and make a lot of noise whenever we played in the woods.

Thank you SO much for the nice comment on my blog - that was really nice to wake up to this morning!

  29. Great gate and a very good reminder. Although around here Orange suits are what the prisoners wear when doing community service work.
