Final Packing for Long Trail Hike ~ 8-2-11 ~ Daily Photo ~ 8-2-11

Tonight we did the final packing of Buddy’s pack. I will weigh it in the morning before we leave for Lynchburg. Here are a few of the things that were all over the dining room table and chairs...

Top Row: 1. The address on one of the food packages 2. iPhone, Solar Charger, Cords for iPhone and charger, Tupperware thingy to hold his charger and iPhone  3.Passport if he wants to stay in Canada a few days...this one if you , Andy!

Bottom Row: 1. Boots, socks, and state of the art Leki poles  2. Four food packages to be mailed on specific dates 3.His new Mountain Hard Wear RED lightweight pack and mat for the ground or in the so-called shelters (pretty primative)...NO outhouses...it is the old go back into the woods, dig a hole, and there you have it....oh, cover up your hole!

We printed out his ticket (280.00) and made a hotel reservation for Tuesday night (another 100.00). This hike is turning out to be a rather expensive nature walk. The train leaves at 5:57 AM, and I have to have him there 45 minutes in advance...UGH! Then I am off to Richmond to see my little Eloise and play “Baga” for a few days. Hope my geek Mac son can get my computer to running a bit faster.

Stay tuned for the continuation of the next installment of this  pictorial story of Bud’s journey.

  1. I find this interesting. So much planning and prep is involved. Just never thought about it although I have read several books by people who have done an extensive hike. A bit different when you see it.

  6. Where is Buddy hiking, Genie? All the way to Canada? Is he hiking the Appalachian Trail? If so, I have stayed overnight in a few of those lean-tos! (That was a long, long time ago, though.)

  9. Very interesting indeed. Love that solar charger in a Tupperware box. If I find where to buy a solar charger I'll steal your idea on the double.
