C.R.Goodman, General Merchandise
"When I am in the country I wish to vegetate like the country.”

I am never prepared for a sight like this. Here I was driving on a back dirt road looking for bloodroot to photograph when suddenly I came upon this house up on a little hill. I couldn’t believe my eyes, and immediately thought...."signs. signs...Genie, get out of this car with your camera and take a photo!" I tell you, some of the country folk in these parts are pretty interesting in what they put in their yards and on their houses. I am wondering what sort of “merchandise” he is selling.

I love to go to old businesses. We have a restored vintage pharmacy on Main St here that I could spend hours at. Great photo.
ReplyDeleteCool sign, Genie. I'm glad you stopped even though you were not prepared.
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait till I can start looking for wildflowers! Spring seems to be slow in coming here.
Whatever it may have been, he certainly wanted you to work for it in finding him and getting to his place!
ReplyDeleteYes, you were prepared - with your camera!
ReplyDeleteHow very curious! I'm certainly glad that you got the picture of the sign - but I am even more glad that you got the unique ambiance of the house and neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteIt looks a picture that could be taken now or a hundred years ago. I'd like to go up the steps and through the door.
ReplyDeleteit may have been a gen merch. once upon a time.
ReplyDeleteA sign of bygone days.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you happened by this house; and nice of you to have shared your image with us.
ReplyDeleteWas it open? General stores used to be common in the western states -- country stores, a few grocerys and odd bits.
ReplyDeleteYou mean you did not go inside. Genie!?! I think the curiosity of would be "general merchandise" today would kill me! Glad you stopped for the pic, though!
ReplyDeleteWow love this one. I remember like this in the Philippines. Great find and thanks for sharing!
