3-13-16 ~ Sunday Sketches

"I never look at my watch when I'm sketching!"
~Karl Lagerfeld

I have an really old barn book, so while we were driving to NC this week, I decided to look at one and see if I could sketch it. I added bits and pieces of my owllike some of the door and fences, but it is all pen and ink. I also played with the hinges and made them different from one another.

This piece is in my art journal. I enjoy doing little sketches about love so this is another one. This one is done with watercolors, watercolor pencils, and some pen and ink.

  1. Genie, I so love that barn. Is it done in ink, pencil, or what? And that other is adorable. I think things like that would sell.

  2. Never mind...I think I see down on the bottom where it says pencil, ink!

  4. Genie, I don't seem to be able to comment on your older posts at all -- they just disappear into outer space (no message saying they will be published after your approval). I loved your smiling friend -- you two made her very happy. And Eloise is as beautiful and bright now as she has always been. Such a wonderful young lady.

  10. I love both of your sketches! All those details on the barn are just wonderful. And the color sketch in your art journal is so pretty as well. Love the soft colors you chose.

  11. I love old barns genie, and always imagine what stories they could tell if they could talk. I think they're pretty special.
You're horseshoe handles are just the finishing touch.
The love scene is so cute too.
    Have a great week

  12. sweet journal drawing. It definitely put a smile on my face. And cool barn drawing and great way to use the time as a passenger on a drive.

You mentioned Fannie Mennen. I'll have to research her print work. Thanks for that info. I took one 2 hour workshop on making monoprints which got me interested in linocuts. I learned about linocutting from my own mistakes, books and diy videos. I'll try and get a blogpost up next week about my learning resources.

And thanks for your lovely bicycle/tricycle memories.
