Quilting and Frigid Weather

In the days to come, I am going to be combining my quilting/needlework blog (http://buttonsforbaga.blogspot.com) with this one because it’s just getting way too complicated for me to try to keep up with two different blogs. My photography posts will continue as usual, but I’m going to include the ones that would have gone to my Buttons for Baga blog.

These are the last three blocks I completed towards my Vintage Revival Quilt.
WOO-HOO! I am up to nice finished.

 Tea Leaf

 Mosaic #19

Diamond Panes

...and here are the nine blocks I’ve completed.

For Christmas my daughter gave me the most wonderful book - 100 Modern Quilt Squares.  I have completed Chapter 1 which focuses on patterns with a cross and below is a mosaic of my blocks. Some did not turn out the way I would have liked, but this is the first time I have been following patterns where whatever I do with the block style is totally up to me with no suggestions or guidance.

Modern Quit Blocks from Chapter 1 ~ Crosses
The green one in the lower left hand corner is my favorite of all of them.

I’ve now started on Chapter 2 which focuses on rectangles, but I have only completed one of them. Most of my time has been spent on my Vintage Revival Quilt Block-Along
quilt.

Our Bridge to Somewhere
It was 26 degrees at 5:00 last night when I took this, and it went down into the teens during the night.  The bridge was very slick. Not much snow, but lots of cold air.

Last night’s supper...Sinbad’s Apocalypse Soup
Check out the recipe at Sinbad and I on the Loose.
Buddy LOVES it, and it is SO easy to make.

This morning was another frigid one...low 20’s at 8:00.

  3. I love your vintage quilt revival blocks and your modern quilt blocks that you have finished. One of my goals this year is to work through Tula Pinks 100 Quilt blocks book and I'd also like to work through my Fat Quarterly Shapes workbook. I haven't bought Vintage Quilt revival yet but I'm sure I won't be able to hold out long :)

  5. You catch on fast Genie. Retirement means when the weather turns bad you sit it out and do your favourite pastimes.

  6. That's funny as I just went to the grocery store today and among the usual weekly items, I bought the nine ingredients needed to make another batch of that soup again. This time I wrapped them all together in one plastic bag and set it aside in the pantry for if and when we are in the need of some more Survival Soup. I think Buddy will want some again when this next weather vortex sweeps down from Canada and hits you.

  8. Do you find it's hard to get fabric colors to look accurate on the computer screen? I've had teal come out bright blue and orange looks red!

  9. I can't imagine working my way through both Vintage Quilt Revival and 100 Modern Blocks at the same time. Your blocks are looking great. I love that pink tea leaf.

  10. Beautiful work Genie - I couldn't sit long enough to put my thumb on a turtle, so I couldn't possibly have the patience to do this wonderful sewing. Lovely job. I adore the last photo of your view - now that is rare and beautiful. Have a wonderful day and so glad you are back and in one place for Blogging. You can do both here :)

  11. Oh, Genie, I did not know you had a quilt blog, though it sounds familiar, so maybe I did and had just forgot. Now I am going to want to check it out from start to finish when I get time.

The soup looks delicious so I am off to see the recipe.

  12. Forgot to say I love your quilt blocks...and in the cross blocks, I love, love, love the background fabric of the one in the upper right hand corner. But as far as blocks, I think I agree with you on the lower left being my favorite. And why do we always pick a favorite...I know with mom's quilts, I always chose my favorite block.
