1. Race Spirit Booster and an Unusual Container
This girl with her funky car would move from place to place all day long cheering on the runners through their LONG rainy run. She asked me what my husband's name was so she could be sure to yell out his name. I told her he would be the last one...way, way back from the pack, and wearing yellow :-) She had the biggest, cutest grin.
Now, to the container. Does anyone know what it is? There were many of them out by the highway. Some were wood and other plastic. I am thinking they were place to put your garbage bags for pick up.
2. A Quilt Barn
Of all the farms and barns we saw, this was the only quilt barn. The home place and all the outbuildings were beautifully kept...a very pretty rural scene.
3. Cows
All along the highway we would pass farms with cows grazing and little sheds like this one. This time we were able to pull off the road so I could get several shots of the same farm.
4. Finally, a Green Gate
5.Solomon's Chapel ~ U. B. Church (United Baptist???) It was tiny.
6. Ingalls Overlook ~ Virginia
We stopped here on our way home. The fog was finally lifting and the rains were gone. The views were out of this world. Buddy is that little yellow blog to the left of the "sharp turn" signage shooting
the Blue Ridge Mts. with his trusty iPhone.
7. Train Tracks in the Little Town of Goshen, VA
When we got here, we were about 5 miles from the house. As always, we had to stop the car, go stand on the old tracks and takes pictures. It is something we always do when we go through the little town.

the 2nd to last train tracks shot is awesome! love the calf with the small red barn/shed behind it. looks like someone took a water hauling container and modified it to hold their trash for pick-up, like you said. out in the country, loose dogs and coyotes will tear into anything that's not protected.
ReplyDeleteA lovely series Genie.... the railroad tracks are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI've seen those containers in some of the mid-west states, thinking trash and recycle holders. Didn't know what else. I like the name of the lane it sits on. Yes, 2nd to last train track shot, well done.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful area. I like the cows and the train tracks.
ReplyDeletePhotos of 7. Train Tracks are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreetings, RW & SK
Even though I live in a rural area, I still always feel a sense of awe when I see shots like these.
ReplyDeleteWell done, as always, Genie.
The quilting barn looks interesting, a nice pop of color. Solomon's Chapel looks even smaller than Big Run!

ReplyDeleteIn my part of WV those containers are indeed used for garbage pickup. I love the setting the church is in - a lovely rural scene reminding me of my own upbringing. I always love a quilt barn. Everyone else seemed to see it too - the second railroad track is an awesome shot!
ReplyDeleteWonderful series of a beautiful landscape! My favorites are the b/w-shots!

ReplyDeleteLovely rural scenes, Genie!
ReplyDeleteThe container is common place in rural communities. They are used for chemicals and nutrients (insecticides, pesticides, fertilizer, minerials etc.) for soil and crops.
Very beautiful photos for SWF!Thank you for sharing and have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteLots of great scenery Genie. The railroad tracks are terrific!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots!!
ReplyDeleteI believe those containers are called totes and are used for shipping and holding various liquids. Bigger than a 55 gallon drum and easy to move around with a forklift. I've seen them in the industry I work in.
wow, a little bit of every thing n this post awesome finds. happy weekend! ( ;
ReplyDeleteYep...I love the RR track pics too...great leading lines! Nice photos!
ReplyDeleteStunning track images, but a lovely post anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe containers are called IBCs and they originally started life for holding industrial adhesives or liquids.
I love your first rail track photo - close up and personal! Such great textures.
ReplyDeleteLove the little chapel and the down-low view of the railroad! And of course the mountains.
ReplyDeleteLovely serie of photos! Especially I like the frist in black and white. It´s gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful series of interesting landscapes. Especially love the misty ones. But I am especially drawn to the monochrome tracks. They look wonderful combining line and small rocks.
ReplyDeleteHow smart you are to do an organized post that fits with all our favorite weekly memes. I keep thinking that this would be a good idea and free up your blog time to visit others and comment on their posts.
ReplyDeleteIt would be hard to pick a favorite from these options. Like them all for different reasons from shooting style to subject.
Genie, I enjoyed each and every one of these images! I'm visiting from InSPIREd Sunday, so I must comment on the church - it IS certainly tiny, and I really like your composition of the photo on the left. The fence and the red leaves piled next to the fence lead one's eyes right up to the church.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my church - now condos for sale. :-)
~Lindy
