The skies were unbelievable in their blues, and the SURPRISE snow on the ground last Sunday almost knocked me out of my seat. I thought everything had melted in the county...it certainly appeared that way when I began my "joy ride". Think not, Miss Genie! The bits and pieces of the road you see are slushy snow with ice beneath. I almost freaked out when I came up upon it and started to slide. Being from Florida, I am a failure at driving in this stuff. In the 35 years I've lived here, I've totaled 2 cars only going 10 miles an hour. I have finally figured out it is NOT the speed, it is the way I put my foot on the break and turn the steering wheel. No mishaps this day :-) And, guess what? We have snow forecast for tonight and again tomorrow evening. Wonder what this Sunday will have in store for me.
Here's one especially for you, Theresa. I nearly flipped when I drove up on this Texas style, spectacular entryway to some impressive Rockbridge County homes. This was at the beginning of my ride so there was no snow.
This was the SURPRISE I drove up upon...and it was slick and icy. Trust me...
even though I was poking along looking at the gorgeous fields
and skies, I remembered NOT to put my foot on the break or turn the steering wheel. This time I came our smellin' like a rose :-)
Snow, snow everywhere, and a pretty red barn to go along with it.
Most of the fields were like this one...covered in the white stuff. SO PRETTY!
Last but not least I give you some more covered hay bales. I saw lots of them, but these were especially nice sitting up there against that gorgeous sky. I had the perfect day to get lost and end up cruising the county. I wonder what this weekend has in store for me. We shall see.

nice, nice, nice estate and gate! :)
ReplyDeletelove the snow scenes and hay bales, too, though! a great fence post throughout!
Beautiful pictures Genie! I can't drive well in snow either (our part of Oregon doesn't get it much and of course lately we've spent our winters where as you remember it is even warmer)....over the years have had a couple of close calls visiting family in snowier parts of the Pacific Northwest...once driving my dad and mom to a medical appointment when I did that brake thing and spun around in circles. Nothing like that for guilt feeling!
ReplyDeleteGlad your car cooperated for you in the white stuff....and that we are the benefactors of such pretty photos.
ReplyDeleteI am sure Tex will be happy to see a gate in her honor.
So many pretty scenes! I know T was enamored with that gate. What a wonderful find!
ReplyDeleteSome of my best discoveries were made not while being "lost" but as I like to phrase it, momentarily confused. I avoid snowy conditions and thus never have to worry about putting my car into a ditch. Drive wise genie.
ReplyDeleteI would be beyond hopeless if I ever had to drive in snow. Give me fog or rain or even high winds any day of the week. That being said, it sure is pretty out there.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a safe adventure, and your photos are great! Sounds like you are getting the experience that you need after a couple of "not so good" driving experiences.
ReplyDeleteOh, Genie, I like all of these...don't forget to link up!
ReplyDeleteThese are good.
ReplyDeleteWhat terrific captures and such beautiful blue skies to go with a snowy day!! Hope you have a great weekend! Stay warm and safe!!
ReplyDeleteTerrific captures, each shot better than the other.
ReplyDeleteRural snow is so clean!
ReplyDeleteSo, it was a nice 'getting lost' one :)
ReplyDeleteAdmire your shots, Genie. The gate, fences, snowy fields look awesome.
There is nothing like having a little bit of an adventure!! Glad it all turned out well.
ReplyDeleteLove the snow shots........helps cool me down, we're having horrible continuous hot weather here.
Love your sky shots. Blue sky and clouds always look stunning with snow. Those top gates are very impressive. Someone has dollars to spend!!
ReplyDeleteNice serie of photos!
ReplyDeleteHappy SWF to you!
yup, the Rockbridge gate does look like some estates in Texas. your snow adventure sounds fun--although i'd be nervous driving on these roads.
ReplyDeleteGenie, these are all beautiful shots. The sky looks gorgeous too. Love the red barn and hay bales, a wonderful country drive. I get nervous driving in the snow. And I would happily move to Florida, just trying to talk hubby into going too. I do not like winter. Happy Skywatching and have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI guess I wouldn't even think about it, for we have snow and icy roads all winter. I can imagine the hesitation when first you saw them. Sounds to me like you dealt with that situation quite well. We still have lots of snow even with the horrible rain and heavy winds for we had another BLIZZARD right after the rainstorm???? Great photos Genie and just wondering, what did you have on yer feet - winter boots perhaps with a good tread?
ReplyDeleteGreat collection of fences and gates! I suggest you keep getting lost, as long as you have your camera along with you!
ReplyDeleteCrumpled Fence
Beautiful skies! A white fluffy cloud day is my favorite kind to have overhead.
ReplyDeleteWow, those homes in the first shot are impressive behind the also impressive fence and gate.
Love the last one with the hay bales - a wonderful rural winter view.
beautiful pictures genie...i hate driving in it too, being from southern california i never had any snow driving practice lol...i won't go out if there is even a snowflake on the ground haha...incredible that you ended up with so much that still hung around and you aren't even that far from me! we ended up with a snow day today because of the icy mix we got this morning.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. Glad you figured out how to drive in the snow n ice.
ReplyDeleteSnow is beautiful but I agree it is treacherous when you don't know how to drive on it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fences and gate! And some great snow shots! You sound as excited as we were by our surprise snow! :-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the country scenes with the snow!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful country estate----spendy I bet. The snowy roads although treacherous are beautiful too but the best is the very very blue sky. Send some to me--Please! MB
ReplyDeletevery impressive clouds. love the hays bales too!! ( :
