Some Signs from the Richmond Marathon 2012

Just the Beginning

Note the gloves...stuff was thrown everywhere. You name it, and it was there for the taking. There were big boxes along the way for people to throw in clothes they were discarding, but still there was stuff all along the road and on the grass.

Now, this is definitely my feeling...why would anyone go through such agony for so long a time? Unfortunately for Buddy, his pace was not a "run like Hell" one.

Mr. Cantor was born in Richmond and continues to live there.

This was definitely a unique one.

Why would you put a "Party Zone" station along the route....maybe at the finish, but not here.
I did not get this one.

Last but not least, an ABC Store sign. Buddy worked for them for 30 years and was the former manager of the stores here in Lexington, Covington, and Buena Vista. Since the day he walked out of there on Halloween Eve 4 years ago, he has not set foot in one anywhere.  He does not partake, and he NEVER wants to open the doors of an ABC store for the rest of his life! He is happy living on less, hiking, running, biking, and not having to endure the stress of managing a state controlled liquor store.

  2. Buddy is probably proud to have finished no matter what his time. Good for him!

  5. Reading this post is my idea of how to do a run ;>)!! It was really a fun read. I think it's cruel for someone to put a party sign up in the middle of it though, jeez, rubbing it in that the watchers are having a good time while the runners are still working so hard.

Good for Buddy -- we love being retired too.

  6. Those signs will keep my laughing for the rest of the week. I agree with Buddy's retirement attitude. I never missed my job... I just miss the people I worked with.

  8. The writer of the Paul Ryan sign had a spelling problem. I didn't get the "party" one either.
    Hmmm..interesting signs.

  9. The marathon certainly had some entertaining signs along the way! Can't believe the misspelling, but I wonder if it was deliberate - to stimulate discussion! (Maybe not!)

  10. Start the race, finish the race - this is how I look at relays, marathons. Does not matter where in line you finished - You completed the hardious task. Anyone says anything about that, tell em to follow the Fartlek'd sign. ha,ha Proud of you Buddy and I loved the signs. I do believe the signs were mis-spelled on purpost - catches the eye quicker. Like for example a buddy fella down here in our little town put signs up all over town wanting everyone to pick fur - tips for him, Eh. We all know it needs the letter " i " in fir, but it was funny for he spelt it that way just to gain attention. BIG BLACK LETTERS AND HIS PHONE # ATTACHED - he got a lot of calls :) Eh, how 'bout that?

  14. One of the nice things about retirement is having the time to take pictures of all those fun signs. Retirement ROCKS!
