Barn at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church

Main Barn

Shed~Outbuilding

The Homeplace

Many years ago I taught the two daughters of the people who lived here. Sadly, the old house has not been inhabited for a long time. I did see some black cows grazing here two days let week, but I have not seen them since. The long, wide porch across the front is typical of old architecture in Rockbridge County. Some of them will go so far as to wrap around one side. This has always been one my favorite spots along our road. I’m sorry I did not get better shots of the outbuilding and house, but I respect “No Trespassing” signs.

  1. That's a great old farm! It's too bad no one is living there to maintain it.

  3. This is just a great shot of the barn and property. I too respect "no trespassing", except you would only have to smile and win approval to film more, eh. Very beautiful property - is there a pond here too?

  6. That's definitely weathered wood. :)
It sure looks like that house was something in its day. The big porch rambling porch would have been a lovely place to hangout.

  8. That looks like it was once a great home place! I always find it sad when homes are deserted...I know the upkeep is sometimes overwhelming, but sad nevertheless. Great find! And I agree with you about the No Trespassing...as the daughter of a former Sate Police officer, I ALWAYS respect those signs! Too much early childhood training!

  13. To quote an old movie "you are better person than I --Gunga Din. My husband is constantly telling me that I will get shot at one day for ignoring those pesky signs.

But, I seldom encounter anyone and when I do they have always been friendly and given me cart blanch.

My motto "Take only photos and leave only footprints." Anything else will get you hurt.
