Entrance to the Roaring Run Furnace
This iron furnace was operated in the mid-1800's prior the Civil War. The historical site is located near the Craig County - Botetourt Count line in the Jefferson National Forest. The Roaring Run Furnace was the only national register site owned by the Jefferson National Forest.

The fence is a beauty, the cast iron gates attached to the stone posts bespeak a strength of style and construction long gone. The forge is so intriguing as I imagine one man, with a sledge, hammering away with the orange hot metal against an anvil. Raw strength alone shaping the result. Excellent view of days of yore...
