This old and no longer used horse trailer sits on the same side of the road as our place and is about a quarter of a mile away.
Pretend you are standing at the end of the horse trailer where the horse would enter and with your back to the door. This is the scene you will see. In the distance (first shot) is our barn. Remember my telling you how the power company came out and without telling us cut one entire side of our trees away? Well, those are the trees on the left. Their branches completely covered the lighted area of the swath (first shot). Where you see the dark area were briars and brambles. Then to the right of the main power line (second shot) the people brought in to do the cutting also wiped out many of the branches on the that side. They took way over any 15 feet of tree branches in all, entire trees, and ALL of our berry bushes. Finally, after my multiple calls, it was cleaned up to suit me, but I am still NOT a happy camper.
This is a just-for-fun inversion of shot one above. I think it is pretty cool. I am trying to leave my safety zone and experiment. When I look at bodies of work like are posted each week, I have to tell myself to get out there and try something even if it turns out to be a dud in my eyes. What befuddles me the most is some of the shots I upload, the ones I think are never going to be what I want them to be, are often the ones people like. Sometimes...or maybe a lot of the time...my rigidity gets in the way of my creativity. I tend to want everything perfectly plumb, and colors just so, and the lighting basically darker than most. As I have said many times in the past, I take all of your constructive criticisms to heart and every time you give me a suggestion I give it a try. Thanks so much for all of your help these past months.

Out in the Boonies. Snow in winter?
ReplyDeleteI like all of these shots. I'm sorry you had to deal with the power line issues.
ReplyDeleteWell I was thinking they were going to cut the trees down entirely so at the very least I was happy to see such wasn't the case. It will all grow back and the power company will forget all about it...hopefully. I like that inversion look. Pretty sharp. I know what you mean. Lots of times I post a picture out of desperation and people go and really like it where I never really did. I hope they are not just trying to be nice. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI do love your black and whites; I must try to experiment more too. It's just too easy to go for the auto-settings most the time we get into the habit of. Sorry 'bout your hassles with the tree-loppers; it's often guised under the label of "progress".
ReplyDeleteWonderful b&w photos! Beautiful framed also!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the people cleared a wide swath :-(
ReplyDeleteI like the inversion too!
I tend to underexpose my shots as well. You can add a bit of exposure fare easier than reducing an overexposure.
Wonderful black and whites! I espacially like the first and the last :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for the loss of your trees and berry bushes. That sort of thing hurts.
ReplyDeleteYou managed to turn the event into a fine photo-op anyway. I really like your experimental final photo.
Grrr. The big guys don't play fair Genie. Your photos are excellent. Your eye for B&W keeps getting better and better.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, Genie. The negative effect in the last photo is particularly eye-catching.
ReplyDeleteWonderful sequence of beautiful photographs!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and the kind comments!
Beautiful B& W images. The power companies seem to do whatever they want with the trees, they do end up looking pretty sad. Great captures, Happy Scenic Sunday!
ReplyDeleteDelightful B & W, gorgeous images with superb lighting effects and shadows. Greetings and happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo of the trailer.
ReplyDeleteWonderful black and white views of countrty side.
ReplyDeletegreat old train. Somehow it is sad it is abandoned. Nice shots. :)
ReplyDeletewhen we first had colored photos, we were so happy to have them. Now, we see B & W ones as creative.
