Bad Memories but a Great Day in the Woods

Yesterday we had been up on the Blue Ridge Parkway and into Shenandoah National Park for a wonderful day in the woods. The two of us had been winging it all day so were returning home taking our time and enjoying the fall scenery. That was when I saw “IT"!  SHEETZ. Cheap gas, but not for us 2 years ago. Here comes the story.

Buddy and I were driving home from visiting the kids and grandkids when we began feeling a bit tired. Great...there is a Micky D’s...let’s get some coffee and tea for the road.  We were slowly coming out from McDonalds which was located directly across the street from this filling station. We came out and around the upper end of the median and slowly moved forward. There was a lot of traffic.

As we reached the little pull off area there to the left of the sign, a man came directly at and into us with his big and heavy “Richmobile". I was in the passenger seat, and he got me. Thanks goodness we were both creeping so we avoided anything serious happening to us. Immediately, he yelled at us for getting in his way and told us to move the car out of traffic as we were blocking the people trying to get onto the interstate just up on the right. Like old fools, we were in such a state of shock we did it waiting there over an hour for the police. The man still would not give up and demanded it was out fault. He argues and argues with the law man. Then the guy took us each aside and got our stories of the incident. We knew it wasn’t our fault but were so afraid we were going to lose out. But, No! That big mouth lost in his rental car.The old folks who were obeying all of the laws came out on top. The insurance companies settled out of court, and we WON!

Now, here it the clincher to the story. We are back on the interstate heading home and what speeds around us and pulls in front but a SHEETZ petrol truck. In a split second I had my camera in hand shooting this out the front windshield. Can you believe it?

Just before we got home, I spied these red tractors on the side of the road...maybe for sale. I do not have a clue. They certainly were red and thought they were just the right ending to my happy day in the woods of Virginia. They do not look like they are going to run into anyone anytime soon.

PS: Thanks for telling me about your key West memories. I would have loved to visit it as a child as it would have felt so exotic to me ..I would have felt like I was Robsinson Crusoe on an adventure! I felt a little like that on this trip :)

  10. In New Zealand, we have ACC, accident compensation corporation. Nobody sues any one.

  11. At least you kept your wits - it seems that the more the guilty party objected, the more his part in the mayhem. Ant the truth won out, as it should. The truck serves as a reminder that good vs bad will always favor who or what is right...the station gas nice rubies, but that tractor as a beast of burden is an honorable ruby1

  18. Glad to hear that this big truck didn't pull out in front of you this time. A bit scarey I'd say. Love the tractors! We visited Virginia 3 or 4 years ago. We loved it and found a wonderful collection of red dishes. Thanks for visiting me and your sweet comment.

  26. Thats the thing...you just never know what is around the corner or down the lane. We (my husband and I) were stopped at a red light when another car ran right through it...hit a car going in the opposite direction and then...the two cars careened into us. We were okay, but the car wasn't and it was a nightmare dealing with the insurance companies. Like I said...you just never know!!

  27. Hey Genie - One for the OLDE FOLKS, eh.
Glad to hear you were not hurt and good for you to stick to the story and obey road laws. I have a friend who speeds all the time and will not drive with her if she speeds. One day we were heading up to Saint John and this car zoomed past us probably going about 140 (which is what my friend likes to drive). She actually said loud in the car "Oh, go ahead and pass me while I obey the speed limit cause Lilly is in the car: About a minute later we passed the speeder with a police car having him pulled over the side of the road - Yep, I laughed and as we passed by the Officer was calling in on his walkie talkie? The first thing I learned when learning to drive was that "Speed Kills" and I have seen many people, some friends die when their car goes out of control because MOST people do not know what to do when their car goes out of control. I DO and I do not speed. Good for you Genie and Buddy for obeying the rules of the road.

  29. Oh I am glad you are OK and the good prevail.
Love the sign. Our gas here in Canada (my area) is $1.28 per liter so I guess we are a little higher than you, works out ours is $1.28 times 4 is $5.12. I would by your gas. Don't come to Canada LOL. B
