I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up ~ 10-22-11

Fallen Tree in Beartown State Park ~ Droop Mt. ~ West Virginia
(Because of the canopy and thickness of the forest, there were just bits and pieces of light coming through here and here. I chose not to lighten the photograph because I wanted you to see it as I did. It was like walking in a magical Hobbit Land. I will be posting more wonderful shots during the week so stayed tuned.)

"If a man walks in the woods for love of them half of each day, he is in danger of being regarded as a loafer.  But if he spends his days as a speculator, shearing off those woods and making the earth bald before her time, he is deemed an industrious and enterprising citizen."
~Henry David Thoreau

  7. It looks magical to me and I'm glad you lightened it so we could see it as you did and not as the camera did. :)

  11. Love the photo. The camera can show us and your words explain, but there is nothing like a walk in the woods. I have seen the forest in this kind of light and love being there. I like Thoreau's quote as well.

    I screwed up the first link I used on Hey Harriet today. I reposted the correct link. Have a look if you care to.

    Peace

    SHADOW, SHADOW

    Shadow, shadow drawing near,
    You are all alone, I fear;
    Let me be your new-found friend—
    I’ll stick with you to the end!

  15. I love this -- walking in the woods does feel sometimes does feel like living in a hobbit land -- that's a great description. Looking forward to sharing more of this hike.

  21. Hi Genie,
    I love the light glow in the image!

    Where am I? I'm near Parkersburg, WV on the border of WV and Ohio. We moved back this way when we retired. Our son and daughter both live in VA so we come your way a few times a year. When we left our son's a couple of weeks ago we came back by way of Cass and spent the weekend there. I loved the train ride. It was a spectacular scene from the top.
    You have some lovely images of the fall foliage below and I love the soft colors reflected in your newest post.
    I wanted to go to Beartown but I thought I had read it was closed for repairs. Love that you referenced it as a magical Hobbit Land. :)
