Buddy’s Long Trail Update from Wednesday the 10th of August, 2011~ SOOC...his iPhone
These first pictures are all from Buddy taken with his iPhone Wednesday while hiking the Long Trail. He is doing great now that he has had 3 nights in a hostel/b and b/inn/lodge. These places all go under all sorts of different names. He has now passed the half way point....oh, happy day!
This is an old silo on the property at the “Hyde Away” Inn/Hostel where Buddy stayed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. There is a beautiful stained glass window in the top depicting the mountains in the distance. He has been hiking the trail from here with the help of shuttles hauling him and his gear to where he need to start and then pick him up and return him to the lodge for the night. This way he is carrying very little so does not have all of that weight on his back. He made it down the ,1500 foot rocky drop without incident and said it was not bad as he was expecting. Being that he was hiking minus the 30 pounds must have been a real plus.

Buddy atop the Camel’s Hump (back up to 4,000 ft. above sea level)...lookin’ pretty good after a week on the trail...I am happy to see he has not lost his glasses, yet :-) Notice the pack. It is NOT the big one...instead a small and light daypack.

love the silo and the first incoming storm shot! whew!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful old, converted silo and views along the hike. What a nice way to do the trail without lugging all your stuff around and also being transported to your billet in the evening.
ReplyDeleteYour Buddy must be having a great hike on the long trail. The photos and scenery are all beautiful. Thanks for sharing, happy skywatching!
ReplyDeleteWhat terrific shots! I, too, love the silo and that storm shot is SO dramatic! Happy SWF! Hope you enjoy a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
love the mountains with the pine tree silhouette! :) thanks, genie!
ReplyDeleteHalfway point? He must be in his rhythm by now with each day feeling like a way of life. "I am happy to see he has not lost his glasses, yet." Why do wives look upon their husbands as little kids, unable to take care of themselves? I get this all the time too. You women are funny.
ReplyDeleteCamel's Hump! I was there as a child when we lived in Vermont!

Wow Bud is doing well. He looks like he is strolling at the park and not the mountains ^_^ And yes I see the backpack is light which is really good for him. Thanking for iphone and I am laughing of Sinbad's comment hehe. Yes women are like that hehe. Thanks for sharing Genie! I appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteSWF
So nice to see a picture of your hero and a view to Lac Champlain, an area I know quite well.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots from the hike. Looks like a fun adventure with lots of beautiful scenery to urge him on.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure! Great shots!
ReplyDeleteGod bless him & keep him safe! Great update =)
ReplyDeleteNice place with wonderful views all around.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots from a great adventure!
ReplyDeleteThis is odd, but I JUST NOW got done watching a documentary on "trail angels."
Genie, Those are great shots--I love the silo. Lots of bright color and nice composition. I'm impressed with the iphone pics--very nice job. Bud will be home before you know it--time flys these days!! Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see the little window on the silo. Thanks for the visit to my blog. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteI think he is missing you. Did he text you to ask you to cook his favourite food when he gets home?
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice view of all photos, you must have a great adventure in hiking, it was a fantastic shot there.
ReplyDeleteAnyway thanks for visiting and ur comments on my blog. I'll be ur follower now.
Have a great weekend.
Too bad about the storms! Wish he had better weather so he could enjoy the gorgeous views even MORE than I;m sure he already does.
ReplyDeleteWOW, these are fantastic photos. I love Lake Champlain, Camel Hump, etc. and I'm very happy that Buddy hasn't yet lost his glasses. he looks fit and in very good shape after putting on all those miles. and that's really smart - having his large pack transported for him and only keeping a smaller day pack. thanks for the update Genie. I'm truly digging this hike. take good care now. have a restful weekend Genie.
ReplyDeleteLove all the photos.. What an adventure.. (The balloon) was just behind the tree and gained altitude from there
ReplyDeleteseems like a great place to hike. But I could do without a storm. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Genie -- thanks for the updates on your hubbies fantastic journey! He's having a great time and remembering your favorite memes too is a great plus! What a nice guy.
ReplyDeleteI heard a thing on the radio about how the post office closures in this pt of the country wmay adversely affect cross-country hikers, because there are several slated to close that are along the Pac Crest Trail and often used as food drops.
Wonderful set of pics and scenery!
ReplyDeleteAnd your hubbie looks more relaxed and happier!
Thanks for sharing, Genie;o)

Have a nice and happy week both of you****
Buddy is looking good and has gotten some great pictures too!
ReplyDeleteToo bad the weather is a bit dark, but I bet the cloudy days make the hiking easier than if Buddy had to deal with a raging sun. Not having the big backpack must make a world of difference, too. He looks like into the zen of it now. Marvelous views, he's enjoying! You are sounding a bit more chipper now that he's past the halfway mark. :-)
ReplyDeleteI had to come back and check out the additional photos. Great shot of Buddy. He does have some beautiful views. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a journey Genie, and you'd never know he has gone that far from the photograph. He looks great!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the updates!
Nice post and photos, too.
ReplyDeleteRegards!
Those are amazing photos--tell him it was worth the hike just for them...haha No, don't say that...he might take an instant dislike to me.
