Mr. Steven’s Barn ~ Rockbridge County, Virginia
This barn hold a very special place in my heart. Mr. Steven’s was a dear friend of ours who passed away around 10 years ago. He was a fine mechanic and always worked on our cars. Back when we were teaching Ridge, the 46 year old son, to drive out in our front field, my husband let him drive the Land Rover back across our bridge to the house. Sadly, Ridge turned the steering wheel too far to the right, flipped the car, and he and Buddy ended upside down in the creek...unhurt! Geeze, did that thing make a BIG noise! Of course, we called Mr. Stevens, and he came down and pulled it out of the creek. We decided to let it go because it was going to cost so much to get it back to where we could use it, and instead gave it to our friend. Mr. S. may be gone, but our old Land Rover still sits there in his barn all of these years later. I see it every afternoon driving home from school and wish we still had it. That car was my favorite of all time. It could drive up a mountain without a bit of trouble, but it did not to so well upside down in the creek.
