Old One Room Schoolhouse
Turkey Hill Road ~ Rockbridge County, VA

This old schoolhouse is now owned by friends of ours who fixed it up and rent it out to families visiting their children who are attending Washington and Lee University. It was under water in the 1985 flood, but with lots of tender loving care was rebuilt and is a precious weekend rental property now.

"I would not be gotten into a schoolhouse until I was eight years old. Nor did I accomplish much after I started. I doubt if I had gone to school six months in all when my father died. I was fourteen at the time.”

born March 2, 1793, on Timber Ridge in Rockbridge County, VA,
and died July 26, 18863, in Huntsville, Texas.

  1. Isn't that the cutest little building. I'm so glad they restored it after the flood. Great photo, Genie.

  2. What a lovely place to spend the weekend. So many great minds came out of simple one room schoolhouses.
