Walking through Beartown, West Virginia

Beartown State Park is a natural area of 107 acres located on the eastern summit of Droop Mountain, seven miles southwest of Hillsboro, West Virginia. It is like an imaginary land with little boardwalks running in-between all of the huge boulders. Trees are everywhere and shadows abundant. Many kinds of ferns are there, too. The area was actually closed when we were there this time for major repairs to the boardwalk, but that did not deter us or many others familiar with the sight. Here are just a few of the photos I took that day.

This section of the boardwalk was totally missing. We had to carefully drop down to the ground and then had to pull ourselves up on this side.

Here is poor Buddy after he pulled himself up. Fortunately I had the camera this time so no one was able to capture my rear end like they did when I was crawling over the culvert pipe back in December.

This crevasse reminds me of
“The Old Lady in the Shoe” ~
She had so many shoes/rocks
she didn’t know what to do.

If you ever have the opportunity to go to Bear Town, GO! You will never forget the experience. It is out of this world, and I am sure as can be there are lots of little gnomes and elves living hidden there in the rocks. All you have to do is BELIEVE!

I could not close out this post without at least one of my mundane macro shots. This old nail gives you all an inkling of all the work that was needed on the boardwalk.

  5. I have never seen a boardwalk in a forest setting like that before. Over hot pools, salt flats, sand dunes and the like yes, but this here is quite different. Interesting. The macro nail shot is pretty cool.

  12. Uh-oh... looks like someone is a lawbreaker! ;)
This looks like a great place to explore. Love the shadows on the boardwalk. And I also really like your macro. Sometimes the most ordinary things make the best shots. It just depends on how you look at them. :)
    Happy Sunday!!!

  13. It's great to see the area is being maintained. It's kind of sad that signs are needed to remind people to NOT deface or destroy property, methinks. Shouldn't people already know that? Hmmmm.

  17. You surely do live on the wild side, my friend, breaking the law, risking your life, taking butt shots... (hahaha)

I am glad to know that this is going to be repaired as it seems to be a valuable natural asset. There is much to be seen in WV.
