Reflections at The James River

This spot on the James River is a favorite place for Bud or me to drop off or pick up AT thru hikers. We shuttle the ones who call and need pick-ups and drop-offs. They will park their car at Point A. We will meet them there and shuttle them to point B. Then they will hike from B back to A and have their car waiting. These are what we call section hikers. If you have a full time job, this is about the only way you can do it. Ten years it took Bud to do the whole thing!  It has been a new experience for me. Sometimes the car smells so awful I can hardly stand it, but they, both guys and dolls, are always full of interesting stories. When I pick them up, I have water and snacks for them and a CLEAN car. I will leave unsaid what it is when my dearly beloved gets them. It’s is a guy thing, I guess. Can’t have that car too clean :-)  I have finally gotten him to take water and snacks which is great.

  5. Great photos and that is a wonderful thing you do for the hikers. I've done parts of the Pacific Coast Trail, but will never finish it. I wish I had the desire to do it when I was younger. I haven't heard of, or seen as many "trail angels" along the PCT as I have the AT, but I'm sure there are some.

  9. We also have a similar "section hikers" on a huge trail just outside the city of Saint John New Brunswick. That sure is nice of you n Bud to do this.
I love the photos of The James River and absolutely love the first photo - looks like a painting. Nice work Genie girl.

  12. So wonderful that people like you do that for the hikers! Great reflections of one of my very favorite rivers! I have lived very near that river most of my life!

  13. I like that... trail angels, Pat called you. I've been, and been the recipient of, stranger angels. That's what makes the world go round more peacefully. And lucky you to get this lovely spot to be a trail angel. It may well be a guy thing to keep a car less than clean, but fortunately for me, my guy is a clean fanatic! LOL!

Genie gal... you had me in stitches this morning. I hope my ugly ducks made it to your suspension room! Before they got on someone's dinner plate! LOL!

  17. Your reflections and photos are lovely but your selfless story is engaging and heartwarming. My parents lived near the AT in NC and it is truly a national treasure with its many miles of challenging walks and hiking.

I did not know that there were people who did "pick up" duty - Yay for you!!

    Bises,
Genie (the other one, your friend)
