Weekend in Black and White ~ 8-21-11 ~ Stairway to the Clouds

The Fire Tower atop Belvedere Mountain ~ Vermont

Pretty High! What a View!
Bud’s almost to the Canadian Border...maybe, today:-)

  1. Yes, pretty high! Some of them were VERY high! I worked as a fire watch in Oregon one summer, it was the best job I have had in my life. The towers there had shelters, which this one is lacking. The view is incomparable!

    Thanks for the memories!

  2. A really nice b&w shot. I think I'd be afraid to climb all the way up there. I'm not so fond of heights! :)

  3. We just found a fire tower this weekend, over on the Mogollon Rim in Arizona. I'll have to post photos of it soon. I really enjoyed seeing it as we don't have those here in Southern California.

  4. I love these shots. Now I'm singing Stairway to Heaven.

  5. I am looking forward to a picture of the trail crossing the border into Canada. I invision a dirt path through a grassy meadow with a weather beaten piece of wood and the hand scrawled word "Canada", no fence, no nothing. The truth no doubt will be far from that.

  6. You won't see me climbing these fire tower stairs anytime this lifetime while I am still in this body. The vertigo would make mincemeat of me! But good choice for b+w, Genie, especially the second one with all the lines.

  7. Those are scarey stairs! Love the second photo.

  8. Wonderful geometry in that tower, it shows up really well in the black and white

  9. Love this shot, and so perfectly outlined in b/w... I climbed a fire tower in Zurich a few years ago for the panoramic view and was so glad to look out in all directions.

You have some hidden talents, mon amie. I did not know about your musical skills.

    bises,
    Genie, the other one!

  12. Go Bud! The likes in the second shot are amazing!!

  13. Like the top shot. Might be worth cropping the shot to cut out the trees and make it just geometrics against the sky.

  14. I climbed a tower like that once and was almost too afraid to climb back down. I was terrified!

I'm glad Bud has almost reached his goal!

  15. Genie, Nice shots--I like the sky behind the first one, and the second one could almost be an "abstract, modern art" pic. Sounds like Bud is making good progress on his journey--3 weeks goes by in a hurry (bet you will be glad when he is back home, but DO enjoy the peace and quiet while you have it). Mickie :)

  16. Hi there! New follower here, LOVE your photos!

I have a Rebel XSi as well and I can't say enough about it. It's a GREAT camera!

I never leave home without a camera of some kind, whether it's my phone, my tiny little Canon Elph, or my XSi.

    Looking forward to following you!

  21. Genie, glad you are OK with comments. I would not try to straighten the tower, very often angles add some vigour to a shot. Also, in straightening the software does what it can, and that can mean that in returning something to the vertical one result is that there is a loss of sharpness, it gets worse the more you have to 'straighten'. I used to try it, but now I very rarely bother unless it is only a very few degrees. Angles are good, in my book.
    Enjoy the week.
